EWC 2024 took place over two months and featured more than 20 tournaments, hundreds of players and dozens of organisations from all over the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5177c75\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Aimed to be a one-stop event for all esports fans and enthusiasts, the event\u2019s viewership has become an evergrowing topic of discussion. With the event taking place in Saudi Arabia, some sections of the community boycotted the event due to the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////www.amnesty.org//en//location//middle-east-and-north-africa//middle-east//saudi-arabia//report-saudi-arabia///">country\u2019s human rights record<\/a>, particularly towards LGBTQ+ and Women\u2019s rights. However, now that the event has finished, how many viewers did the $60m (~\u00a345.4M) tournament ultimately attract?<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e517847c\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>This article dissects Esports World Cup\u2019s viewership, game-by-game, to find out how the tournament ranks among its direct competitors. A total of four games had more than 500,000 peak viewers and 15 games in total had more than 100,000 peak viewers at EWC. Overall, the tournament was a success in terms of viewership.<strong> 1.1m viewers<\/strong> watched the event at its peak, along with just over <strong>566,000 average viewers<\/strong>. With just 22 hours of air time, the event was the fourth most-watched League of Legends event in 2024. Only international event <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//lol//mid-season-invitational-2024-lol/" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MSI<\/a> (2.82m peak) and Korea\u2019s two LCK splits (2.65m for Spring, and Summer is ongoing but has reached 1.27m peak viewers) have performed better so far this year.<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e517c36e\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"counter-strike_2\">Counter-Strike 2<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e517cafc\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>By many metrics,<a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//csgo//esports-world-cup-2024-cs/"> Esports World Cup\u2019s CS2 tournament<\/a> could also be seen as a success. Taking place in mid-July, the CS2 tournament at EWC recorded<strong> 756,000 peak viewers<\/strong> and an average of <strong>238,000 viewers<\/strong> with 43 hours of air time. The mobile MOBA is one of the most popular games globally and its popularity translated well into the EWC, largely due to the event being a part of MLBB\u2019s competitive calendar. <\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e517e2b5\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The Mid Season Cup 2024 \u2014 which was recently <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////esportsinsider.com//2024//01//mobile-legends-msc-to-mid-season-cup/">rebranded from the Southeast Asia Cup <\/a>\u2014 attracted a peak of <strong>2.38m viewers<\/strong> and an <strong>average of 406,000 viewers<\/strong>. This makes it the most popular MLBB tournament of the year, ahead of the 13th season of the MPL Indonesia, the game\u2019s most popular league.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e517ea1d\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The game\u2019s second tournament, the Women\u2019s Invitational 2024, was also a success. The event had more than 265,000 peak viewers, making it more popular in terms of viewership than many other EWC events, including Call of Duty, Overwatch, Fortnite and other titles. The Women\u2019s Invitational is also the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////esportsinsider.com//2024//07//mlbb-women-invitational-2024-viewership/">fourth-highest-viewed female esports event of all time<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e517f1ba\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"pubg_mobile\">PUBG Mobile<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e517f925\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The mobile version of battle royale game PUBG: Battlegrounds is a very popular mobile game globally, especially in Asia and other emerging markets. The <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//pubg-mobile//pubg-mobile-world-cup-2024-pubg-mobile/">PUBG MOBILE EWC tournament<\/a> was also a popular event on a global scale, becoming the most-watched PUBG MOBILE tournament of the year. <\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5180092\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The event attracted just over <strong>566,000 peak viewers<\/strong> and <strong>206,000 average viewers<\/strong> during nine days of competition. Nevertheless, despite its popularity among PUBG Mobile events this year \u2014 including the PUBG Mobile Global Open 2024 (513,600) \u2014 the event is 11th in the title\u2019s all-time viewership.<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e5180846\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"honor_of_kings\">Honor of Kings<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5180fb2\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Another mobile game that has found success in Asia, the<a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//hok//honor-kings-mid-season-invitational-2024/"> Honor of Kings tournament at Esports World Cup <\/a>is also currently the game\u2019s most popular event in 2024, excluding Chinese viewership. Attracting <strong>481,000 peak viewers<\/strong> and <strong>92,000 average viewers<\/strong>, the event is notable for lasting just five days. The short air time of just under 27 hours is also impressive, especially because the second-most watched event of the year \u2014 the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//hok//honor-kings-invitational-series-2024-season-2/">Honor of Kings Invitational 2024 Season 2<\/a> \u2014 had 10 more hours of air time and 241,000 peak viewers.<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e518186d\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"free_fire\">Free Fire<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e518203a\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Continuing with the mobile theme, Free Fire, once known for having the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//free-fire//free-fire-world-series-2021-singapore/">world\u2019s most popular esports event<\/a>, also <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//free-fire//esports-world-cup-2024-free-fire/">had the EWC <\/a>as its most popular event of 2024. The EWC event attracted <strong>471,000 peak viewers<\/strong> and just over <strong>206,000 average viewers <\/strong>with just over 18 hours of air time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e51827dc\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"dota_2_riyadh_masters_2024\">Dota 2 (Riyadh Masters 2024)<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"638\" src=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////esportsinsider.com//wp-content//uploads//2024//08//Riyadh-Master-2024-large.png/" alt=\"Riyadh Master 2024\" class=\"wp-image-157596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Riyadh-Master-2024-large.png 1024w, https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Riyadh-Master-2024-medium.png 300w, https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Riyadh-Master-2024-medium_large.png 768w, https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Riyadh-Master-2024-1536x958.png 1536w, https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Riyadh-Master-2024.png 1880w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image credit: Riyadh Master 2024<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5183082\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The event with the highest prize pool at the inaugural Esports World Cup ($5m) was the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//dota2//riyadh-masters-2024-dota2/">Riyadh Masters in Dota 2.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51837ef\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Despite the event recording 147 hours of air time and almost 27m hours watched, Riyadh Masters attracted just under <strong>419,000 peak viewers <\/strong>and <strong>178,000 average viewers<\/strong>. Compared to<a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//dota2//riyadh-masters-2023-dota2/"> last year\u2019s edition, which took place at the Gamers8 festival<\/a>, the event had around 150,000 less peak viewers but around 20,000 more average viewers. The Riyadh Masters had fewer viewers than the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//dota2//pgl-wallachia-season-1/">PGL Wallachia Season 1<\/a>, the most-watched Dota 2 event of the year, which has attracted around 487,000 peak viewers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5183f76\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>It should be noted that The International, Dota 2\u2019s most popular event, will take place later this year.<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e5184705\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"apex_legends\">Apex Legends<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5184e7a\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The popular battle royale game Apex Legends saw decent viewership for its <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//apex//esports-world-cup-2024-apex/">EWC tournament,<\/a> but not the best of the year. Its <strong>219,000 peak viewership<\/strong> and <strong>98,000 average viewership<\/strong> made the EWC event the second most popular event of the year, with just the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//apex//algs-2024-split-1-playoffs-apex/">ALGS Split 1 Playoffs <\/a>being more popular with 567,000 peak viewers.<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e5185607\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"street_fighter\">Street Fighter<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5185d71\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The most-watched fighting game tournament at the Esports World Cup <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//sfv//esports-world-cup-2024-sfv-sfv/">was Street Fighter,<\/a> one of the most popular games in the genre\u2019s history. The event had just under <strong>155,000 peak viewers<\/strong> and an average of <strong>93,000 viewers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51864d9\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>However, this doesn\u2019t put it in the top five Street Fighter events of 2024 in terms of viewership. For comparison, the most-watched Street Fighter event of the year was the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//sfv//evolution-championship-series-2024-sf6/">EVO tournament in July<\/a>, which attracted over 403,000 peak viewers.<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e5186c75\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"call_of_duty_and_call_of_duty_warzone\">Call of Duty and Call of Duty Warzone<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51873ee\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Two immensely popular games in the United States and Europe, both Call of Duty and its battle royale mode Warzone did not break more than 150,000 viewers at the EWC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5187b4e\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The regular Call of Duty event was a bit more successful than Warzone, with <strong>140,000 peak viewers <\/strong>compared to <strong>Warzone\u2019s 135,000<\/strong> (86,000 average viewers compared to Warzone\u2019s 76,000). The two tournaments were also not the most popular event for either game. The EWC tournament attracted<strong> 108,000 peak viewers<\/strong> and around <strong>43,300 average viewers<\/strong>, which makes it the third most popular event for the game in 2024. <\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5189a92\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>This means it was behind the FC Pro 24 World Championship (113,000 peak viewers) and the FC Pro 24 Open, the most-watched EA FC event of the year that had just under 320,000 peak viewers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e518a20f\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>It should be noted that EA Sports, the creators of the game, are now gearing up for the launch of the new version in September, which means that the EWC is one of the last tournaments in the 24 version of the game.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e518a9a6\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"pubg\">PUBG<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e518b128\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The PC version of PUBG: Battlegrounds has <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//pubg//esports-world-cup-2024-pubg/">performed much worse at the Esports World Cup<\/a> than its mobile counterpart, PUBG MOBILE. The game saw <strong>105,000 viewers at its peak <\/strong>and around <strong>52,000 average viewers<\/strong> during the EWC. However, this is not a terrible result. <\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e518b891\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>This makes the EWC event the third-most watched tournament for PUBG\u2019s PC version in 2024, behind the PUBG Global Series Phases three and four. Phase 3 had 281,000 peak viewers, and Phase 4 saw 287,000 peak viewers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e518c043\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"overwatch_2\">Overwatch 2<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e518c7b6\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>A game that is currently experiencing a rebirth of sorts after the Overwatch League was cancelled and the ESL FACEIT Group came to the rescue of the Overwatch scene, Overwatch 2 performed well in terms of <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//ow//esports-world-cup-2024-overwatch/">viewership<\/a>. Its tournament saw <strong>around 100,000 peak viewers<\/strong> and just<strong> 33,000 average viewers<\/strong>, making it the second-highest viewership since the game\u2019s esports scene underwent somewhat of a rebirth this year. <\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e518cf1c\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The Overwatch Champions Series 2024 Major was the most-watched event for Overwatch 2 this year, with 125,000 peak viewers, only 25,000 more than EWC.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e518d6ae\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"rocket_league\">Rocket League<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e518de21\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The first major disappointment in terms of viewership is the Rocket League tournament at the Esports World Cup. Despite being a popular game in terms of viewership worldwide, the <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//rl//esports-world-cup-2024-rl/">EWC Rocket League event attracted<\/a> relatively low viewership during its three days of competition. This amount of viewers was not enough to put the EWC tournament in the game&#8217;s top 10 tournaments of the year. <\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51904bb\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>For comparison, its most popular event \u2014 FNCS 2024 &#8211; Major 1: Europe \u2014 had 739,000 peak viewers and a lower prize pool.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e5190c5d\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"rainbow_six_siege\">Rainbow Six: Siege<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51913c6\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Despite not breaking 100,000 viewers<a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//rainbow-6//esports-world-cup-2024-rainbow-6/">, Esports World Cup\u2019s Rainbow Six tournament <\/a>was actually in line with some of the game\u2019s events this year. Rainbow Six has only broken 100,000 peak viewers on just occasions in 2024. The EWC Rainbow Six: Siege event still did have a low peak, with just <strong>67,800 viewers<\/strong> watching the grand finals, and an <strong>average viewer count of 25,000<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5191b4a\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The Six Invitational 2024 is the most-watched event of the year for Rainbow Six esports, seeing a peak of 521,000 viewers. The BLAST R6 Major Mahcnester was also more successful than the EWC, with 162,000 peak viewers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e51922de\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"starcraft_2\">StarCraft 2<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5192a53\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The oldest game in the EWC and a pioneering esports game series, StarCraft 2 is still a popular esports title despite being launched almost 15 years ago. The game <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//sc2//esports-world-cup-2024-sc2/">attracted just under <strong>61,000 peak viewers<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>24,500 average viewers<\/strong> which makes it very close to Rainbow Six and Fortnite, two much more popular games today. Overall, the EWC tournament is seventh in terms of viewership for the game this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51941fb\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>The Tekken tournament at the EVO Las Vegas <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//tekken//evolution-championship-series-2024-tekken/">is the game\u2019s most popular this year,<\/a> with 275,000 viewers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e51949a0\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"teamfight_tactics\">Teamfight Tactics<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e519510e\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Riot Games\u2019s auto battler Teamfight Tactics is still a popular esports title despite the genre\u2019s drop in popularity in recent years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51959a9\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>However, <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//tft//esports-world-cup-2024-tft/">TFT did not perform as well as fans would\u2019ve expected at the EWC<\/a>, recording a peak of just <strong>35,000 viewers<\/strong>. This places the game 10th in terms of TFT events this year, significantly behind the title\u2019s most popular tournament, Inkborn Fables Tactician&#8217;s Crown (149,500).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-heading-67cf7e5196165\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n  \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"rennsport\">Rennsport<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e51968eb\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>Despite having two separate tournaments with prize pools amounting to more than \u00a31m, new simulation racing game Rennsport saw just over 10,000 peak viewers at both events combined. The <a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//rennsport//esl-r1-2024-spring-esports-world-cup-driver-championship/">Driver Championship<\/a> had <strong>5,461 viewers at peak<\/strong> and <strong>4,530 viewers on average, <\/strong>while the Team Championship saw <strong>5,748 viewers at<a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//rennsport//esl-r1-2024-spring-esports-world-cup/"> its peak<\/a><\/strong><a href=https://esportsinsider.com/"https:////escharts.com//tournaments//rennsport//esl-r1-2024-spring-esports-world-cup/"> but <strong>3,866 on average<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-67cf7e5197059\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n    \n<p>It has to be said that the game was also featured at Gamers8 last year, where it had around 13,600 peak viewers.
